Chennai:
For the second time in a week, the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) has replaced a candidate for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.
DMDK founder Vijaykanth changed his party’s candidate for Cuddalore Lok Sabha seat, now fielding C R Jaishankar in place of R Ramanujam.
In a statement, Vijaykanth did not disclose the reason for his decision, but appealed to local party personnel to work for Jaishankar’s victory.
Earlier, the DMDK candidate for Namakkal, N Maheswaran withdrew from the contest on health grounds. He was one of the five candidates declared by the party before it reached a deal with BJP.
Vijaykanth later fielded S K Vel for the Namakkal constituency.
The DMDK is contesting 14 of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu.
