Chennai:
DMK president M Karunanidhi, who earlier rejected Congress overtures for restoration of alliance between the two parties, said on March 27 that his party would support the Congress in a post-poll situation if the Congress stood firm on secular principles.
Addressing an election meeting to seek support for DMK candidates in Chennai, Karunanidhi said his party had earlier criticised the Congress of being vengeful and ditching its allies. However, in the interest of secularism, the DMK was willing to support the Congress -- not now but after the elections, he added.
The DMK president indicated a softening in its stand relating to the Congress.
The Congress should regret its past mistakes, he said pointing out that the fortunes of the Congress had taken a huge dip due to its attitude towards the allies.
He introduced the DMK city candidates – T K S Elangovan (South Chennai), Dayanidhi Maran (Central Chennai) and R Girirajan (North Chennai).
