Sonia sends New Year greetings to Karunanidhi

A week after DMK chief M Karunanidhi said that the party would not align with the Congress for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, AICC president Sonia Gandhi sent him her greetings for the New Year.
Karunanidhi had on December 14 charged the Congress with letting down the Tamils in Sri Lanka.
DMK sources said Karunanidhi suitably reciprocated,and sent Sonia Gandhi his New Year greetings as well.
A DMK leader said Sonia Gandhi had sent a letter to Karunanidhi in which she wished him and his family members for the New Year. Karunanidhi too, in his reply, conveyed his New Year greetings to her and members of her family.
While a DMK leader said the greetings from Sonia was a positive move despite relations between the two sides collapsing a week ago, another leader said these were mere pleasantries and there was no political significance.
