Kamal Haasan loses Coimbatore South to Vanathi of BJP by 1,439 votes

Noted actor and MNM leader Kamal Haasan lost narrowly to BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan in Coimbatore South constituency. The margin of defeat was just 1,439 votes.
Vanathi polled 52,526 votes while Kamal Haasan secured 51,087 votes. Kamal Haasan was leading for good part of the day. For some time, Mayura Jayakumar of the Congress, managed to secure a small lead ovr Kamal Hasan but the latter staged a comeback to be back in the lead. Vanathi was trailing in the third position behind Kamal and Jayakumar.
It was only towards the evening, that Vanathi managed to secure a lead over Kamal Haasan, ending the actor's hope of a victory in his debut election.
The seat was won by ARJUNAN @ AMMAN ARJUNAN,K. of AIADMK in 2016 by 17,419 votes.
