Dakshinamurthy Award for Carnatic vocalist Balamuralikrishna

Chennai: The Dakshinamurthy Sangeeta Trust and Peringottukara Devasthanam, Kerala, have announced the Dakshinamurthy Naadapuraskaaram  (Dakshinamurthy Award) for the second year. Last year, the award was given to playback singer S Janaki.

This year, the Dakshinamurthy Naadapuraskaaram award will be presented to noted Carnatic vidwan Dr M Balamuralikrishna for his contribution to the field of music and fine arts, said Trustee Jayaprakash Sarma. . The award will carry a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation, a shield and a ponnadai.

The award will be presented to Dr Balamuralikrishna at a function organised by the Dakshinamurthy Sangeeta Trust and Peringottukara Devasthanam at the Peringottukara Sri Vishnumaayai Bhuvaneswari Amman Temple in Trichur district of Kerala  on January 23, 2016, said K G Haridas, a representative of the Devasthanam.

Dakshinamurthy memorial music festival would be held there from January 23 to January 31, and it will include a Carnatic music concert by Balamuralikrishna on January 23, said P Dakshinamurthy.

Musicians who wish to take part in the music festival and render concerts
 can contact Dakshinamurthy or Baiju (0954433703, 09947364973, 0487 2329000) by January 16. Dakshinamurthy said the Devasthanam would make arrangements for visiting musicians to participate in the music festival.

Over 300 musicians would take part in this year's Dakshinamurthy music festival, Jayaprakash Sarma added.
