Vairamuthu lauds role of Odhuvaars in protection of Tamil

Odhuvaars of temples have played a vital role in protecting and nurturing Tamil songs right from the 5th century till now, and their services in the cause of Tamil music and literature were truly laudable, said Kaviperarasu Vairamuthu in Chennai on December 21, 2015.
Vairamuthu presented the 73rd Annual Tamil Isai Festival awards of Tamil Isai Manram to Thavil exponent A K Palanivel and Odhuvar S Muthukumaraswamy Desigar at Raja Annamalai Manram in Chennai.
A K Palanivel was conferred the Isaiperarignar award along with a Medallion and cash award. Vedaranyam S. Muthukumarasamy Desigar was conferred the title of Pann Isaiperaringar, along with a Medallion and cash award. Vairamuthu also presented the Manram awards to winners of various music competitions for students.
Vairamuthu said the Chettinad family rendered invaluable service 73 years ago by launching the Tamil Isai Sangam. He appreciated Tamil isai Manram Honorary Secretary A C Muthiah and the rest of the family members for continuing the good work.
Tamil Isai Manram President and Mr Justice (retired) P R Gokulakrishnan welcomed the gathering and referred to the role played by Tamil music from time immemorial.
A C Muthiah, delivering a vote of thanks, said the music and dance festival would be held from December 21 to January 1.
