On the occasion of the 80th birthday -- Sathabishekam -- of Sri Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, legendary musician Shenkar (Vocal/Double Violin) was presented the Asthana Vidwan title of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt.
He was presented a plaque, a shawl, the mutt honours and the Malar Kreedam – crown -- for his contribution to the field of music.
A multi-genre artiste whose work won him global recognition and accolades such as his collaboration with Peter Gabriel on the movie "Last Temptation of Christ" by the legendary film maker Martin Scorsese which won a GRAMMY,"Passion of Christ" by Mel Gibson, Voice of the hit TV show "Heroes", "Born in to Brothels" which won an OSCAR. He is a multi-platinum artiste with solo and collaborations with other super stars.
On this special occasion at Kanchipuram, he performed with his violin virtuoso nieces M Lalitha and M Nandini with whom he often performs. They were accompanied by Manikandan on the Tavil.
