Jayalalithaa gets Nebulisation treatment, still on respiratory support

Chennai: The private hospital treating Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has come out with a fresh medical bulletin on October 6 night,
which indicates that her problems are more serious than "fever and dehydration" which was claimed by the hospital soon after she
was admitted on Sept 22. The latest bulletin has said that she was being assisted with Nebulisation, a drug delivery device used to
administer medication in the form of a mist inhaled into the lungs. Nebulisers are commonly used for the treatment of cystic fibrosis,
asthma, COPD and other respiratory diseases or disorders.
 
In addition, Jayalalithaa was also being administed drugs to decongest the lungs, besides continuing to be on respiratory treatment
and antibiotics to overcome the infection.

Three specialists from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences assisted the medical team of the Chennai hospital.  AIIMS doctors
--pulmonologist Dr GC Khilnani, cardiologist Dr Nitish Naik and anaesthetist Dr Anjan Trikha – were assisting the medical team
attending to Jayalalithaa.

In addition, Dr Richard Beale from the UK too helped in the treatment on October 6.

The hospital medical bulletin said that Jayalalithaa had a history of diabetes and winter bronchitis. She was continuing to show
improvement, the bulletin said adding that she would have to be in hospital for a few more days.
