Chennai:
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on September 14 informed the State Assembly that specially designed wheel chairs would be distributed to 960 persons suffering from spinal cord injuries and diseases.
Making a suo motu statement, Jayalalithaa said though the state government had distributed foldable wheel chairs to 911 differently-abled persons in 2013-14, the wheel chairs were not able to meet the special requirements of victims of spinal cord diseases and injuries. So a specially designed wheel chair would be distributed to them and each wheel chair will cost Rs. 20,000, Jayalalithaa said.
Jayalalithaa said in the first phase, 30 persons from every district would get the special wheel chair and it would cost the government Rs. 1.92 crore.
